Do you need a Dynamic Dog Assessment?

  • Does your dog show undesired behaviour such as guarding issues, dislike of being touched, aggression to other dogs, travel sickness, noise sensitivities or anxiety?
  • Has your dog’s behaviour suddenly changed or recently got worse?
  • Do you notice your dog is stiff, struggles with daily activities, or doesn’t run like they used to?
  • Do you just feel something isn’t right for your dog?
  • Are you a dog professional and feel discomfort may be a contributing factor to the behaviour your client is experiencing?

Why is pain the name of the game?

It's not always a limp or a whine! Pain related behaviour is extremely complex. Dogs don't often show that they are in discomfort in ways we would usually expect, it is often subtle and goes unnoticed for weeks, months and even years!

In a recent study carried out by Professor Daniel Mills at Lincoln University, it was found that up to 80% of dogs that presented with behavioural issues had some form of undiagnosed pain that was a direct cause of, or a contributing factor to their challenging behaviour.

Signs of pain in dogs can include:

  • Aggressive behaviour
  • Noise sensitivity
  • Excessive barking or vocalisation
  • Reluctance to walk
  • Dislike of being touched
  • Excessive itching
  • Intermittent or continuous lameness or limping
  • Changes in eating, drinking or sleeping habits
  • Reluctance to jump in car or on sofa
  • Changes in posture or gait
  • Compulsive behaviours such as spinning, fly snapping, shadow chasing, staring
  • Barking and lunging at everything on a walk
  • Guarding behaviour
  • Excessive chewing or licking
  • Difficulty settling
  • Disliking harness being put on
  • Growling when asked to move
  • Sudden changes in behaviour
  • Constantly jumping up
  • Being destructive
  • Travelling issues
  • Heavy panting or breathing
  • Separation anxiety

As a Dynamic Dog Practitioner I have been trained in canine biomechanics, posture and gait analysis and I understand how physical issues may exacerbate and even cause behavioural issues seen in dogs. I have the skills to carry out hands-free functional assessment of your dog and confidently spot potential signs of discomfort. I then relay the findings to your vet so that you and your dog find relief sooner, whilst simultaneously helping you manage your dog’s behaviour.

Why wait for your dog to go lame, before you consider they are in pain?

Dog Behaviourist
The Association of Dynamic Dog Practitioners

A Dynamic Dog Assessment consists of:

Initial Consultation

Lasting approximately 90 minutes not only do I look at any unwanted behaviours you are experiencing but I look at all aspects of your dog's life - from their history and previous experience, the way they move, eat, sleep and play, to their daily routine and everything in between. Everything is interconnected. This may be carried out in person or on Zoom depending on your location.

Evidence Gathering

Additional information in visual form - photos and videos of your dog doing various activities of daily life focusing on movement and posture. I will guide you on how to get the best visual evidence possible so that observations can be made.

Evidence Analysis

All evidence given to me in the consult together with the visual evidence is assessed to ensure nothing is overlooked and a detailed analysis can be given.

Veterinary Report and Liaison

A comprehensive veterinary report with corresponding evidence is compiled and I liaise with your dog’s vet with the findings to ensure that any underlying health issues are diagnosed and supported so that they lessen the impact on your dog’s behaviour.

Follow up support

A short term plan is given to help you micro manage behaviour whilst additional Veterinary support is being sought.  Longer term support options can be discussed depending on assessment outcomes. Either way I make sure you have full support during the initial Dynamic Dog Assessment.

I offer Dynamic Dog Assessments to local clients, but I also work with clients UK wide as the whole process can be carried out remotely. Dynamic Dog Assessments are available directly to owners and also in collaboration with other dog professionals such as behaviourists who may need additional insights into a behavioural case they are working on.

RECENT REVIEW

"Lisa is fabulous! She has helped me immensely this year with her advice and guidance. My dog has quite a few issues including anxiety, touch sensitivity, resource guarding and is sometimes reactive. Lisa promotes positive reinforcement and is all about treating animals with kindness and respect. It was such a relief to find such a compassionate and caring behaviourist that puts the interests of your beloved pet first. She is always on hand with queries and advice and I cannot recommend her highly enough! We have made so much progress this year. We also benefited from a Dynamic Dog report which has been so insightful in terms of seeking help from the vet. Thank you Lisa!"
